Purpose : the extraction of the oil shale in north-east Estonia.

 

First source of energy in Estonia, the extraction &  transformation of the oil shale represent more than 90% of the national water uses. The purpose of this work was to gather information through interviews, researchs and field investigation, to make a disinterested opinion about it.

 

These photos have been taken in Tallin and in the area of Narva and Kohtla, the main site of extraction in the country. Estonia made a lot of improvement since the collapse of the USSR and his legacy of dirty plants. Many initiative and researchs have been made to reduce the CO2 emissions of these factories. Despite of that, this sector remains the biggest environmental issue in Estonia. Morever since the country decided to expand his production to export gas.
